Empty Nesters Again

Every year a pair of Phoebes nest in a crook above the downspout of the rain gutter just beside our front door. One year a big black snake ate all the eggs, but this year the parents successfully raised a brood of five. For the past week both parents have been engaged in nonstop feeding as the nestlings approached their first flights. This morning the nest is empty again.
